SLAM

About

SLAM stands for Shoot Like A Master, which refers to this project where we researched a master photographer and made a collection inspired by their work. My pieces are based off work by the late Jerry Uelsmann. I love photographing in black-and-white, and I want to make people feel something they can't explain when they look at my work. This is much of why I chose to recreate Jerry Uelsmann for this project. He created images by combining multiple negatives to produce a single, seamless composition– often with dreamlike qualities. A big part of Uelsmann’s process was what he called “post-visualisation,” where he would imagine what the completed image would look like, rather than what he was currently photographing. I kept this in mind as I photographed, and it really helped me decide what to shoot and how—I’d like to continue applying that to my future photography.
